Question: My husband fell off a ladderback chair yesterday & the top of the chair jammed into the inside top of his left leg groin area. It is quite b&b.What should we do

How should we be caring for this? It keeps getting more and more black and blue. I cant convince him to go to the er .

Brief Answer:
It is haematoma of thigh

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms

I can quite understand his unwillingness to go to ER. Thanks for providing the clinical photograph . From the picture it appears he has developed hematoma ( collection of blood below the skin) along with abrasion of underlying skin. This is likely to resolve in 2 weeks time . If he is able to bear weight , the possibility of fracture is less likely.

I would suggest you the following

1. Bed rest : Absolute bed rest for a day with limited mobilisation after a day will be helpful to reduce the pain

2. Local application of hot water fomentation: Either by hot water bag or cloth dipped in hot water and applied intermittently for feet seconds over affected will be helpful in reducing the pain

3. Oral analgesic like Ibuprofen will be helpful in reliving pain and associated inflammation

If you notice any of the following then do not hesitate to take him to ER without second thought

1. Unbearable pain

2. unable bear weight

3. Increase in size of swelling

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you

Wishing your husband a speedy recovery

Take Care

Brief Answer:
Ibuprofen can be safely taken

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms

Ibuprofen is safe and has less anti-platelet action and unlikely to worsen the hematoma. It can be safely taken to reduce the pain and due to anti-inflammatory action.
