Posted on Fri, 9 Dec 2016
Question: I fell off a step snd landed on my left temple, elbow and hip. I must have also hit my ribs.
My head hurts, my hip and ny ribs all on the left side. I can wslk no problem but very sore. The ribs really hurt when i move or hit a bump in the car.
I dont think anything is broken. I have talen 3 advil and have been putting ice on my hip and ribs. What should I do to relieve the pain and insure I heal properly??
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Rest will help in healing.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
This seems to be a soft tissue injury of the hip and ribs. You need to ice the area for first two days and after that doing a hot compress will help. Avoid all painful movements or lying on your left side.
Do continue taking advil and in case the pain is severe then consult your physician and get oral muscle relaxants prescribed. Rest is the main thing that will help in an early healing. Rest assured it will subside in a week.
I hope this answers your query.

Dr. Tayal, I iced throughout the night. The rib area under the left breast is the most sore. Nothing is black and blue. Could I tape the ribs?
Thank you for your help .

Brief Answer:
Use a chest belt.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
You can tape the ribs or get a chest belt to immobilize the area and to help the healing. Taking an oral muscle relaxant in addition to a pain killer will help.
Hope my answer is helpful.
