Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Lower Abdomen And Under The Ribcage
Question: Hi.. my daughter is having alot of stomach pains. They are in her lower stomach and on her left side under her rib cage. Sometimes the pains are so bad she can not stand up. She is 14 and not sexually active. Should I take her for a catscan?? Or what could this be?

I read your question and i understand your concern. At age of 14 severe abdominal pain under the rib cage is likely due to gastric discomfort like gastritis etc or acid reflux. But being just 14 i would keep other possibilities in mind like worm infestation, appendicitis pain , any other bowel related pathology and renal colic as well.
So i suggest give your daughter some tylenol and some pepto and see if it helps. Or else she will need work up to sort out the cause , and cat scan is not a good start to work her up. Let her doctor decide how to proceed. I am sure slight supportive care and diet lifestyle adjustments like avoiding triggers, spices, processed canned foods, pizzas, burgers, chocolate , dairy products, fatty foods etc will improve the symptoms.
