Suggest Treatment For Pain In Throat While Swallowing
Laryngo-pharyngeal reflux...
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting the query. I have understood your problem thoroughly; I will definitely help you out with this problem.
The symptoms described by you suggests of Laryngopharyngeal Reflux (LPR), also termed as silent Reflux. This occurs when there is backflow of acid from your stomach into the throat. LPR worsens during the night time, because of the stress and more so during sleep, because of the easy flow of the acid from the stomach into the throat.
The pain felt in the outer part of the neck is due to the pain referred from the throat into the neck.
Treatment is aimed at reducing the production of acid and prevent the reflux. Also, dietary modifications and life style changes can reduce the problem.
My suggestions to you are:
1. Drink plenty of warm water, to reduce the congestion in the throat.
2. Every day try to have food at the same time.
3. Avoid or minimize:
Stress
Alcohol
Fried/Fatty Foods
Spicy Foods
Citrus
Caffeinated Beverages/fizzy drinks
4. You may require Proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole or esomeprazole, to reduce the inflammation by suppressing acid production. And, a prokinetic (metachlopromide) needs to be added to prevent the acid reflux.
With these above measures you will definitely feel better. If the symptoms do not improve even with the above measures, consult your doctor for a complete evaluation and management.
Hope I have answered your query; I will be available for the follow-up queries.
