Brief Answer:
He might have developed opioid tolerance

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Morphine is an opioid narcotic analgesic. Your uncle might have developed opioid tolerance, in other words, a higher dose is required over time to maintain the same level of pain relief.

Rarely, it might also happen that his disc problem is worsening or he is not restricting his physical activities.

It is requested that he reports to his doctor and his medications are reviewed. A follow up on his disease is also important.

Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
