Suggest Treatment For Painful Cracking Skin On The Feet

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: I am having increasingly painful skin that is cracking on my feet around the edges and splitting like tiny cuts in the center of the underside of my feet. The skin is also very flaky. My feet appear red and irritated. I am just beginning to get the same shriveled skin on my fingertips over the past couple of days. I stay mildly dehydrated since my gastric bypass surgery three years ago. I am trying to drink more and am treating my hands and feet with XXXXXXX butter with tea tree oil and bag balm. I'm necessarily staying off my feet as much as possible. I also am diabetic and currently controlled with metformin. I am scheduled for my regular checkup at the end of the month, but I am trying to wait until then to see my doctor until then. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Brief Answer:
Suggestive of cellulitis; foot care, antibiotics necessary

Detailed Answer:
Hi madam.

Thanks for upload the snaps.I have seen them.Deeply appreciate your efforts and time.

The snaps are suggestive of mild cellulitis (bacterial with/without superimposed yeast infection).Since it needs to be treated with antibiotics with antifungal medication I would suggest to consult your physician since the medications are available only on prescription and cannot be procured over the counter.

Adequate foot care is essential to prevent further aggravation I would suggest to pre-pone your appointment and consult your doctor as early as possible.

Keep the foot dry.Wipe with a clean cloth/towel after taking bath.Avoid exposure to water for a long time.
Please make it a practice to examine your foot daily hereafter to ensure they are okay since you are having neuropathy.

Feel free to ask any further queries you may have.

Regards
Dr.Praveen
