Suggest Treatment For Painful Cut On Penis

Question: Hello. After having sex with a. Dry condom I had irritation to the opening on my urethra. I have been putting petroleum jelly on it to heal. It has been 5 days and I'm not noticing any improvement. K have refrained completely from sexual activity. I went to see a urologist who noticed a cut. He advices to put a little neosporin. It has not been getting better and he then suggested potentially using silver nitrate to burn the skin and close the wound. What suggestions do you have for cream or procedures that can get ride of the pain and cuts?

Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have sustaine cut injury to your external meatus due to dry and rough sex.which has not healed up after applying Neosporin ointment for 5 days.

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Do you have any other urinary symptoms like frequency,burning etc.?

The cut injury that you have seems to be extended deep inside.

Normally it takes 10-15 days for complete healing of such wounds.

You need to clean it with microbial solution and take broad spectrum antibiotic like Cefixime along with anti inflammatory drug like Diclofenac twice daily .along with topical antibiotic ointment like Soframycin .Use of local anesthetic jelly like Xylocaine or Nupercaine jelly will help to reduce irritation.

Ensure to wash your genitals with warm water twice daily.

Ensure to avoid sexual encounters till it heals up completely.

Have a patience it will heal up naturally gradually.

Hello Dr. Thabk you. Given that it is late and the drug stores are closed. Would topical creams like hydrocortizone 1% with moisteriser, aquaphor or vaseline be better to apply for the time being? Which one would be the best. In addition would advil be okay to take for now for anti inflamatory? Also, ive switched my underwear to cotton based for the time being which seems to be helping. What microbial solution are you suggesting can you elabroate?

In terms of urinating, at first it was burning wuite a bit but now it dosent. Their ks alight burning just at the tip of the hole of the urethra. Im assuming the constant application of neosporin is preventing infection

1. Use antimicrobial solution like Betadine for cleaning external meatus. I am not aware of other antimicrobial solutions which you might have at home.

2. Advil can be used as a substitute to Diclofenac twice daily.

3. I am not in favour of using hydrocortisone over this region. Instead you may use any plain moisturizers.

My cuts have not been getting better is there a procedure that can be done to fuse the skin back together. I am going to see another urologist. The pain has been going away but the cuts are still there. Any othsr solutions/reccomendations

Healing of wound is a very slow process and may take 2-3 weeks.Any surgical procedure on urethra take 3-4 weeks for complete healing .Any attempt to suture this wound at this stage will land in to create more problems.

Have a patience and leave to nature It is bound to heal of its own spontaneously .

Hello dr. I have been putting neosporin on it 3 times a day and wrapping i in a gauze pad. The cuts are healing very slow. And gbe skin around the tip of the urethra is getting tighter. With thag said the tip has become rough with all the neosporin any reccomendafions on deoffernet creams or just keep waiting. I feel that going to the bathroom just causes the cuts to reopen
