Suggest Treatment For Painful Lesions Within The Oral Cavity

Posted on Wed, 22 Jun 2016
Question: I'm having pain and extreme sensitivity in my mouth. All of the tissue is enflamed. My dentist put me on clotrimazole lozenges and I broke out in rashes and bumps. The bumps were actually present before the lozenges but got much worse. I was told to stop the lozenges and the discomfort in my mouth seems to be returning. The lozenges initially reduced the severity but the mouth thing didn't go away. Any suggestions? This started almost a month ago.---Mark age 54

Brief Answer:
Seems like Apthous Stomatitis..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that pain and sensitivity in mouth along with inflammation of tissues seems to be most probably due to a condition known as Apthous Stomatitis and can be due to a number of causes like deficiencies of Iron and Vitamin B12, dry mouth, side effects of certain medication etc...

I would like to know a few more details so that I can guide you better..

1.Along with inflammation, is there any white coating also present?
2.Before taking Clotrimazole lozenges which is an anti fungal medication, were you tested for fungal infection?
3.Do you have a dry mouth?
4.Do you have any medical problems or are you on any Medication?
5.Other than lozenges did you take any other medicine for this problem?
6.Rashes and bumps are present inside mouth only or on some other body parts too?

Please revert back with answers..

Thanks and regards.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be Burning Mouth Syndrome..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome Back..

As per the answers, it seems that you have a burning mouth syndrome leading to the symptoms that you are experiencing and if there is dry mouth or reduced salivation it can be a culprit..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like blood tests to check for any nutritional deficiencies and hormonal imbalances can be done along with assessment of the cause of dry mouth..

Treatment of the underlying cause will help in resolution of symptoms..

As of now you can start gargling with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
You can do cool water rinses and suck ice pops.
Take Vitamin B complex daily. foods to prevent irritation..
Chew sugar free chewing gums to improve saliva flow.
Drink plenty of water..
You can also avoid spicy food.
Avoid stress..

Any further queries are welcome..

Regards.
