Posted on Mon, 2 Jan 2017
Question: Hi, last night I changed positions while asleep and since then I have pain on the middle of my upper back towards the left side and it runs down my left arm.

Advil doesn't seem to work, is there anything else you can recommend?

Brief Answer:
pinched nerve

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
Sometimes when you sleep in a certain position you can cause some pressure on a nerve and it will cause pain and sometimes numbness and tingling. This should resolve in a few days to a week.
Applying some warm compresses on the area and taking advil (as you are) may help.
Take the advil with food to avoid stomach irritation.
Move the arm around as much as possible and make sure you stay well hydrated. Drink plenty of water and avoid coffee, tea, sodas and alcohol.
If you are not back to normal in a week see your doctor.
Let me know if you have further questions.

Brief Answer:
naproxen

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You could try naproxen 5oo mg twice a day. Do not take naproxen with advil. But if you need more pain relief you can add acetaminophen 1000 mg three times a day to either advil or naproxen.
I hope you are better soon.
