age 53, 5 1, weight 210. I work in kitchen and lift heavy objects and work very hard for 10 hours a day....I am somewhat healthy, just quit smoking and gained tons of weight, on high blood pressure meds and antidepressants. Symptoms are: when working and busy i get this pressure and pain under my left rib cage, i have to take a break and take advil to relieve the pain and it does go away but remains sore. Its been for about a month and only at work does this occur.

Hi,

Weight gain is a common side effect of many antidepressant medications, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs). The exact mechanism by which these medications cause weight gain is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a combination of factors, including increased appetite, slowed metabolism, and changes in the way the body stores fat.

In addition to the effects of the medication, other factors such as lifestyle changes (such as quitting smoking), diet, and physical activity levels can also contribute to weight gain. As for the pain and pressure under your left rib cage, this may be related to your work activities, particularly if you are lifting heavy objects repeatedly throughout the day. It may also be related to your high blood pressure medication or another medical condition.

It is important to talk to your healthcare provider about any new or unusual symptoms you are experiencing, particularly if they persist or worsen over time. Your healthcare provider may recommend additional testing or imaging to evaluate the cause of your symptoms, as well as possible changes to your medication or treatment plan.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
