Suggest Treatment For Palpitations And Anxiety
Question: Last week while I was driving I had a head rush sensation and had to pull over. Following this, I had heartburn and took Zantac, felt a little nauseous and not myself but was pre-menstrual. Today I have had heart flutters most of the day and panicked so felt quite light-headed. I had the doctor around who said he would do an ECG tomorrow to be sure. I have taken magnesium too. Could this be related to my monthly period and hormones? It is the first time I have had this sensation. A year ago I used to get palpitations and had an ultrasound on my heart which showed minor mitral valve but nothing else. I then had anxiety too. Thanking you for your advice.
Brief Answer:
24 hour holter ECG monitoring is needed
Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs,
Monthly period and hormonal changes may trigger both palpitations and blood pressure deviations.
The best method to diagnose the cause of palpitations is 24 hour holter ECG monitoring. If you have no palpitation during the period you wear the monitor, then you may be given event monitor, you may keep it with you for a longer time, and press to chest when you feel palpitations. The monitor will register the ECG at the time of arrhythmia and your doctor will see if there is anything serious or not.
Take care
