
Suggest Treatment For Panic Attacks And Dry Heaving

I had got panic/anxiety disorder since 9 years ago. Different kind of symptoms appeared since then. Long story short I had a "new" symptom recently and would panic over it. I will try and keep swallowing saliva till my throat feels Dry. Once it dries up I will have the urge to dry heave/gag. And I will keep sucking in air and dry heaving or gag till I burp gas. I will feel satisfied then after. If there is no "sucessful burp " accompanying the dry heaves , I will keep thinking of waiting awhile and Dry heave again awhile later.
If I'm busy I won't feel any of this. This is especially so when I'm free. And usually that happened in the morning and night when I brush my teeth... I panic when i brushed my teeth fearing that I would have to dry heave again after the next saliva swallow...
It's driving me crazy... I know it sounded silly and I'm self torturing ... But I JUX can't it and get my mind of it...
Pls advise me ....

I have read your query and can understand your distress...please have patience .....
you will get better..
Please tell me that if you are taking any meds for anxiety disorder or not...coz the new set of symptoms which you have recently developed are also part of anxiety disorder.
You ideally need a combination of both meds and therapy / councelling for proper and effective managment.
Try to practice deep breathing for 10min three to four times every day. This will help you a lot and also help in state of panic. You will be able to get hold of your thought process.
Therapy or CBT will help you to catch hold of your wrong and fearful thought process.
If you are not taking any drugs for this illness then I can help you with them.
It is always helpful to stay away from tea,coffee, alcohol and such stimulants when someone has anxiety disorder.
Many times thyroid disorder is also associated, so, get tsh levels done. Get your vit. B 12 & Vit D levels too and treat them if low- this is very helpful.
Finally, please dont be so upset, it is quite a mangeable illness and you will surely get better.

Its ok if you want to go for natural remedies first.
Make the dietary changes as mentioned before..and .along with them-
: take more green salad
: take more water in form of sips every 10-15 minutes all day long
: go for brisk walks 1/2 - 1 hrs tiwce a day
these will boost endorphins which are helpful in recovery.
Try to remain busy with something and stay social- all this distracts ones mind from these disturbing thoughts .
It will be very good if you can manage to learn a relaxation exercise - jpmr. You may find it on net and learn it. Doing this even once a day will have very good results !
Add nuts - walnuts to your daily diet and a bowl of sprouts daily.
Get the test as mentioned previously and treat them if needed

Hello,
I can understand that it is becoming very difficult and painful for you now.
please take clonazepam 0.5 mg on SOS basis when you feel extreme anxiety is getting over you..it is not a permanent medicine. You can take this for some days and then practice deep breathing to control anxiety.
I know you dont want to go on drugs but you really need medicine at present or this panic anxiety will become more uncontrollable..
You can discuss this with your doctor.
Im sure the drug will help you. Later you can just stop it.
Any other method apart from medicine itself will not be effective in such extreme anxiety state.

I only used to dry heave/gag when I brush my teeth in the day n night... Eversince out of a sudden one day, I tend to notice than when I swallow saliva ,, I would need to swallow the mucus from behind the nose/sinus.. If the saliva is not accompanied by the mucus , that swallow will be deemed "unsuccessful " in my head and I will keep swallowing till enough mucus was build up n a "good" swallowing follows. If there isn't .. I will tense up and then finally make myself gag n after gagging more saliva n mucus is produced n I can swallow successfully again... I got no problem eating , drinking etc except that my appetite had decreased a lot...
I really don think medication can helped me at this state becos swallowing saliva is an auto response 24/7.,, Im feeling terrible n frustrated as this happened out of the blue...
I'm sorry for my long post... But I jux can't get rid of this thought... It makes me sick :(

I have read the reply and can see that there is no stressor presently in your life which could have lead to this...and you were ok from past 18months...
the new set problem which you are presently having are definitely a part of anxiety...the disturbing thought doesn't need to be voluntary or involuntary or relevant or irrelevant. Even the definition says - the repetitive irresistible but useless thoughts come in mind and make it difficult to function normally.
Its good that you will be seeing your doctor as he will expalin you in more detail. If you dont want drugs, fine, but looking at the severity if the symptom- I would sincerely advice you to go for therapy sessions atleast.
