What is ssri? I'm not crazy.... I just feel like I'm in panic mode .
Brief Answer:
A specialist in Internal Medicine might be able to help
Detailed Answer:
SSRI stands for Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor.
Serotonin is neurotransmitter i.e. it is an agent through which the brain cells talk to one another. It is also called the ' hormone of happiness' by some. Panic episodes may be related an abnormal level of this neurotransmitter in certain areas of the brain. SSRI reduces the severity and frequency of the panic attacks. These are safe medicines with no addiction. They are not meant for treating 'crazy people' like phenothiazines.
Xanax is Benzodiazepine with an addiction potential and you keep increasing the dose with less and less benefits.
If you are unhappy about seeing a psychiatrist, you could see a specialist in Internal Medicine who would be able to help and may prescribe you the same.
