Suggest Treatment For Pelvic Discomfort And Difficulty Urination
I have recently begun to have pelvic discomfort and urinating has become more difficult which is not unusual because it comes and goes periodically and seems to sort itself out.
At times, however, I have found that a round of Cipro from doctor seems to cure symptoms if symptoms are persistent. Should I see my urologist for an appointment and possibly, under his direction, start taking antibiotics? Thanks.
Count of 3000 colony/ml is very minimal and can not be lablled as infection
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been diagnosed to have non bacterial Prostatitis since last 10 years and your recent urine culture has revealed presence of indigenous bacteria with count of 3000/ml .
Normally a bacterial colony count above 75000 is considered to be active infection.
Th symptoms of discomfort and difficult urination are mainly due to flare up infection or due to super added bacterial infection which gets cured with Ciprofloxacin.
It is always advisable to repeat urine culture whenever you get these symptoms and take appropriate antibiotic at that particular episode of infection.
You can discuss and explore the other modality of treatment with your Urologist like doing prostate massage every alternate day .I have been practicing this method in for patients with chronic Prostatitis for last 40 years and getting good results. This helps to expel out prostatic secretions and reduce congestion which is basic reason for pain and discomfort .
Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
