Suggest Treatment For Persistent Acne
Question: Hey dr,
I am currently on Minocycline for acne 50mg twice a day. I was on it the middle of last year for 3 months and I am back on it again. My question is in terms of probiotics how much should I be having while on antibiotics? I have attached two pictures of what I have one being Yakult and the other a chocolate ball probiotic. Which one would be more effective or could I have both a Yakult at nignt and the chocolate balls at night?
Kind Regards,
Daniel

Brief Answer:
The pictures didn't come through!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Your pictures have not been uploaded. Can you kindly upload them for review and insights from me?
On another note, where did you get the information that you need to be on probiotics while taking minocycline or is it of your own thinking? This is because it is not a conventional approach. However, I don't really disagree with persons who want to take probiotics though am not very much in support for.
In all, kindly review the images and upload to us again for review. I will weigh in then.
Kind Regards and waiting!

I have attached the pictures they should come up now, but i've always had Yakult for a long time and from what i've read online it seems like its good to take probiotics while on antibiotics especially, since your gut flora is disturbed and put out of balance and i've found that they help out with constipation or diarreah as well, but ive just never know how much I should be having I usually have either one Yakult a day or one of those chocolate balls in the image. Also another question regarding Minocycline can you still drink alchool while on it? And I also have these mass gainer supplements after I go to the gy which I have attached images of and they contain calcium so from what I have read you need to take it 2 hours before or after the mass gainer shake would that be correct?m
Brief Answer:
Yes, you can still drink alcohol!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
1. You can still drink alcohol. Generally, I recommend alcohol in small volumes and at least 2hours before or after medications.
2. Probiotics are not a must. I rarely recommend them but i will never stop anyone form taking them while on antibiotics. A choco a day is largely sufficient and there is no need to get worried.
3. Calcium chelates minocycline and makes absorption difficult. For best results, I suggest that take it at least two hours from the minocycline, rightfully like you suggested already.
I wish you well.
Kind regards.
