Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband developed c difficile postop, he was treated with flagyl but then had recurrence of c difficile and is currently on vancomycin. He has the hiccups and burping for about 1 week. Are the hiccups due to c difficile or the the vancomycin? Can he take tums say 1 hour after the vancomycin? He finds the florastor helps a bit re hiccups.
Vancomycin is not known to cause hiccups or burping, so I would suspect that is not the cause. C diff is also not known to cause these kinds of symptoms, usually just lower intestinal symptoms like diarrhea and lower abdominal pain. But it would be completely fine to take the tums 1 hour after the vancomycin, and the Florastor should be fine to take as well.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
