Posted on Fri, 16 Jun 2017
Question: Looking for help urgently. My daughter in law has seen a psychiatrist and was prescribed Pristiq 3x50mg daily. On top of that her fam. doctor prescibed Clomazepam and Abiliy , dosage unknown.
She has shown clear signs of bipolar disorder for the past 7 yrs.
Due to her irritability and irrational behaviour a family break-up is imminent. Also she talks about suicide.
She has attacked her husband with an axe and is presently in the custody of her parents awaiting trial.
Pleas advise, XXXXXXX Van Bergen

Brief Answer:
A mood stabilizer should be added

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

I can understand your concern. As per details she has bipolar disorder. She attacked her husband and is violent too. These symptoms are of bipolar disorder only. Did she attack her husband after some provoking or without any provoking?

She is given Pristiq, Aripiprazole and Clonazepam. But since she is violent so in my opinion there is need to add some mood stabilizer in her prescription. Sodium Valproate can be added and this should help in stabilising her mood. You can talk with her doctor for that. This will help in stabilising her mood.

Thanks and Take care.
