Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cervical Spine Pain

Question: he pain in my cervical spine continues. My neuro surgeon said that I am not a candidate for surgery. He referred me to a pain mgt clinic, a Dr XXXXXXX In Little Rock, 100 miles away. Numerous trips were made there with epidurals and one painful diagnostic test. That test failed. He prescribed an antidepressant, Amitriptyline 10mg hs for pain and to help with sleep. I have taken that for 6 to 8 wks. It seemed to help with sleep but did not help with pain. Last week I developed an overwhelming depressed mood. My research shows that depressed mood while taking this ANTIdepressant can develop or increase.I have been sad re chronic pain that is causing me to have disfunction in my daily activities, but certainly not that kind of depression. I am taking myself off that med, doing it gradually. You mentioned Lyrica. It has not been ordered for me at this time. I like the idea of acupuncture. My neuro surgeon mentioned that as a possibility, also. We live in rural Ar near Hope, Clintons home town. Please do not hold that against me : ) There are no acupuncturists near me. We can find one some where, If affordable. I believe they do not accept medicare. I am considering that as an option.
I appreciate your answer and also rechecking with me.
I have heard of some alternative treatments that I would like to know what you think about . One is called prolotherapy, I believe.
Thank you. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
You should try acupuncture and soft collar

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. I agree that cervical spine pain can be difficult to control. In 80 years of age bone is osteoporotic and so surgery is not rewarding. Alternate methods are slow to responds but have less side effects. Before I advised you any thing I would like to know little detail about your illness.
1.Are you having only neck pain or this is going in hand also?
2.Do you have any other medical problem like Diabetes or hypertension?
3.Can you send me your cervical spine x ray or MRI, If yes please send it to me.
Please send me answers of these questions. I will try my best to help you.
thanks
