Suggest Treatment For Persistent Chesty Cough

I have a chesty cough, had an xray result nothing to worry about. My doctor did not want to give me antibiotics as me did not think it would improve my cough. Is there anything you can recommend I've taken off the shelf medicines not much improvement. I'm 70 years of age and quite active. Many thanks. XXXX
Only painkillers
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking in HCM
I can understand your concern
The fact that the chest X ray is normal and your doctor did not prescribe antibiotics for you means that h/she thought it might be a viral condition.
This is my opinion too.
I would recommend you only painkillers like paracetamol or Ibrufen orally twice, a lot of water ,some rest and after some days you will feel better again.
We don*t recommend cough inhibitor drugs as it is a normal protective reflex of the lungs against the several harmful agents
If the cough will not improve probably your doctor according to your clinical picture will recommend inhalers for you.
However i think you won*t need them.
Take care and feel free to ask me again
