Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough Along With Sinus Drainage
may be allergic sinusitis
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Persistent sinusitis can be associated with heaviness or fullness in the head, post nasal drip, coughing and loss of balance.
Additional symptoms that may occur are nasal congestion , sneezing, fullness in the ears with reduced hearing.
Post nasal drip due to sinusitis is the most common reason for persistent cough. It is most usually related to allergies.
Reflux is also a cause of persistent coughing but would not cause the additional symptoms mentioned.
Treatment would involve: (1) if it is possible to identify the allergen and reduce exposure then this would help.
Allergens can be food, drink, dust, pollen, animals
Allergy tests are possible either as a blood test or skin prick testing
(2)oral antihistamines- these would be available over the counter
(3)topical steroid nasal spray- eg nasonex, nasocort, flonase, avamys, rhinocort
It can take 1 to 3 weeks before the combination of oral antihistamine and topical steroid nasal spray have an effect in some persons
I hope this helps ,feel free to ask any other questions
