Question: 2.5yr old toddler has continuous cough from yesterday which sounds like barking. Runny nose.Vomitted after coughing continuously.Drooling a lot while crying. Also running temperature about 100degrees. I gave him calpol drops 2ml. Doctor prescribed sinarest syrup 3ml twice a day. Is this the right treatment? Is my son suffering from sinus? Also is it contagious, as I have a 2month old baby at home.Thank you.

Brief Answer:
As he is hhaving cough there can be lower respiratory infection also.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query with diligence. Sinarest has antihistamine and nasal decongestants. Your son could be having a viral respiratory infection. This causes stuffy nose and sinarest syrup is effective for this.

But as he is having cough there can be lower respiratory infection also. For that his is not enough. I would suggest saline nasal drops and salbutamol syrup in such case instead of sinarest which will give him relief from cough also. Antibiotic will be needed in case of positive signs of secondary bacterial infection.
Give him more warm fluids. You can give tea with lemon and soups.

A consultation with paediatrician and chest examination for congestion is well appreciated.

Viral respiratory infection can spread to your little baby also. Avoid contact of baby with him.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Salbutamol syrup is given 2.5ml as dose for 10 kg kid.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up.

Salbutamol (2mg/5ml) can be given 2.5ml as dose for 10 kg kid. This can be given 3 times daily also. But it shouldn't be exceeded as it can give palpitation. It can be given after 4 hours of sinarest dosage. You can change the medicine after consulting your paediatrician.
As I said before chest congestion should be ruled out by auscultation of lungs. in case of positive signs of bacterial infection antibiotics also should be added.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
