Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cramps In The Legs Causing Walking Difficulties

Question: I have had severe cramping in my feet, toes, arch, ankle and legs up to the very top of my legs for years. It is getting worse and it happens every day, particularly at night and when I try to get out of bed in the morning. This morning when I tried to get up both legs from foot to my butt seized up and I landed on the floor un able to move enough to try to rub my legs. The pain was a 10. My husband worked on me for half an hour before I could stand up. Then I did some stem on my calves and back upper thigh just below the buttocks. I can barely walk now. the muscles in my legs and feet are very tender and stiff. This is getting to be debilitating. For now should I use heat or cold. I am trying to drink lots of water as my mouth is always dry and I am eating a banana but I feel like the cramping could begin again any moment. This has gotten worse over the years and over the past few months. I take two 10 mil. of Cyclobenzaprine Hcl Tabs every night and when I need them during the day but they have no affect any more.I also have started having these cramps in my upper abs just below my rib cage. I have colon issues with severe cramping for hours before I finally am able to have a bowl movement. Then I have to go several times over the next few hours. It usually ends up as very loose stool. This happens 3 - 4 times a week and lasts for hours.
Brief Answer:
What is your electrolyte status ?
Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,
Thank you for posting your query on HCM.
Well getting such bad cramps can be debilitating. In this state, I will need to test your electrolyte level. Blood tests to know serum calcium , potassium , sodium needs to be performed before starting any treatment.. Because we need to see the diagnosis first before suggesting you anything . Well quinine is prescribed off label for treatment of cramps and many people find it useful also but that's not the standard treatment for all causes. I will recommend you visit the ER and get the tests discussed.
Take care.
