Suggest Treatment For Persistent Diarrhea And Anxiety

default
Posted on Thu, 15 Dec 2016
Question: I have been having a lot of diarrhea-I have always had a sensitive stomach and have diarrhea when I am upset about something. There is no blood in the stool and it is not tarry. Usually happens after I eat or it could be 3-4 hours later. I have gas with it sometimes. I did go to doctor-they told me to take Imodium which helped some but still having it. Am wondering if is IBS-D? Many people think it is stress or anxiety diarrhea-it happened 2 years ago after my husband and I had a very difficult move-we downsized and the process took much more than it should have. My husband has early onset front temporal dementia-I am his sole caregiver-we do pretty well most of the time but obviously as changes with him occur- it is frustrating for both of us. I had a rash all summer that finally decided was stress-it is better and now this-help?

Brief Answer:
Expert advise & self care would help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for the query on health care magic. I have read it & understand your concern.
It seems you do not have signs of bowel infection, infestation, digestive problems, food allergies..& so it's most likely to be irritable bowel syndrome.. which commonly follows psychological stress through Gut - Brain axis( & you are subjected to one ).
Still I would advise for a consultation of a Gastroenterologist doctor & get fully examined/ investigated as per need, & exclude/ get specific treatment for any of above possibilities... for in late sixties it's important that at least one of the couple keeps good health & takes care of the other one!.
Management would consist of -
- Rest & avoid physical/ psychological stress/ Get some assistance for taking care of your husband for few days. .
- Sufficient fluid intake with salt & sugar to maintain hydration. Any signs of dehydration would call for Iv fluids.
- Doctor may offer you specific medication to control bowel infection/ infestation along with other specific drugs to control excessive bowel movements along with probiotic to maintain bowel health. Also some tips for your regular food ingredients.
- Have easily digestible light & fresh food with less of fibers, to provide sufficient energy
- On long run- psychological counselling to stand stress & prevent depression ( cognitive behavioral therapy ) , Mild physical exercises like yoga& mind concentration with Meditation would help in keeping up positive psychology.
- Acupuncture has a supporting role to maintain normal bowels in spite of the challenging routine.
Thus an expert's guidance & advise along with personal care & positive psychology would relieve/ prevent the problem & help you have a smooth life & do the duties hurdle less.
I hope this helps you.Any more information you want, please feel free to ask.
Thanks.
