Suggest Treatment For Persistent Diarrhea

Question: I have had diarrahea for 5 days now. It started last thursday. I took immodium on saturday and did not have a bowel movement until today. Dirrahea is back. Mostly liquid. I have eaten very little.
Brief Answer:
Please stop Immodium. Increase oral fluids intake and eat healthily!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
This sounds diarrhea of viral origin. I will suggest that you stop Imodium for now. It is never advised in acute diarrhea as it tends to retain microbes in the guts and delay healing.
Drink much water only and eat healthily. This will resolve spontaneously within 3-5days. If it persists beyond this, we will need to do a stool microscopy exam to look for the specific infections and treat following the report.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
Kind Regards

I have a lot of gas with this as well as stomach pain up high. I only took immodium once on saturday and then again today. I ate only crackers and white rice and chicken broth saturday and ate basically nothing sunday. Monday I ate some eggs. I get a stomach ache and indestion type reflux when I eat
Brief Answer:
NO more immodium. Fluids intake. Avoid leafy foods!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have reviewed this information. Gas is often related to diet and mostly when leafy foods, beans, lentils, broccoli, etc. are consumed. As of now, there is no worrisome sign. Diet modifications as well as increased fluid intake should be enough to address these symptoms.
If reflux like pain persists, add omeprazole: 20mg daily for 10-14days.
Keep me updated. I wish you well.
