Suggest Treatment For Persistent Dry Cough Followed By Vomiting

Question: Hello docter...My daughter(11 months ) have been suffering from only dry cough past 3 weeks.Docter suggested a Asthalin syrup,Deriphylin syrup also.but it's not cure till now,After she taking milk or rice when dry cough comes vomitted all, it happened night time only,
Important thing is after vomit only stop cough

The primary treatment that I would suggest for such a cough is steam inhalation. Water in the form of vapor, would reach deep inside and would help in diluting the cough and hence would provide relief. Such a cough usually has an allergic component and so giving Cetirizine syrup for a few days intermittently should be helpful. Asthalin may safely be given but unless she has wheezing or respiratory distress, I do not think it to be essential. So, you can give it as and when you feel it to be required. Similarly, Deriphyllin syrup can be given if there are signs of respiratory distress.

The thick cough might often give rise to gag reflex which might make her vomit out.
