Suggest Treatment For Persistent Fever In A Child While On Azithromycin

Need further evaluation...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I would like to take this opportunity to address your son's medical concern today.
As per your description, he has intermittent fever for the last 15 days with no associated complaints. Temperature recorded at 102 deg F. I would like to know if the fever is associated with chills and shivering. How is his appetite? Is he able to swallow solid foods without throat discomfort? Any complaints of nausea / vomiting.
I looked into the reports attached here and I don't find any concerning issues. Prime facia looks like an infectious episode. And at times the infection especially a viral infection. However I see the reports are a week old. And since he continues to be febrile, it might be a good option to repeat tests - atleast complete blood count including platelet count and urine routine. It would also be good to perform a dengue serology - dengue IgG / IgM. Please report back to his pediatrican and discuss about these options.
In the meanwhile, you may continue prescribed antibiotic. Continue paracetamol every 6-8 hours. Appropriate dose of paracetamol will be atleast 300mg (half a tablet of calpol 500mg). Encourage him to eat and drink plenty of fluids. Multivitamin pills will be of additional use.
Please try these options as you plan a second visit to his pediatrician. Let me know the details of visit / additional testing.
I hope this helps you to make an informed decision. Wish him a speedy recovery.
Regards

Often he has the chills during the early hours 3am-4am not in the day time.
His apatite is normal and able to swallow the food freely.
We don't find any throat discomfort.
No vomiting's as such.
He is energetic.
Complete dose of Cefixime made him to recover from fever as of now.
Seems to have recovered...
Detailed Answer:
I am glad he is fine now. the fact that he has no fever and he is energetic indicates that he has recovered from that infective episode.
Probably it could have been an extended viral infection or a common bacterial flu infection. His symptoms except for extended duration of symptoms were not classical, hence I was unable to narrow down the possibility.
Any way, since he has recovered, there is no need to be concerned further. We don't need to run any more tests.
Encourage him to drink plenty of fluids. Fruits and vegetables provided extra vitamins which will allow him to recover faster.
Hope this helped. I will be happy to guide you further if needed. You may close the discussion once your query is answered.
Regards
