Suggest Treatment For Persistent Headaches

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Sep 2014
Question: Most of this summer I've been experiencing headaches. They seem to come and go. I have no trouble sleeping at night and am fine first thing in the morning, but as the day wears on I experience them They seem to be most prevalent behind my eyes. They are increased in intensity if I subject myself to pressure on the head by stooping over or sneezing or coughing. They are not constant but they seem to be with me every day. I thought in the spring they may be related to an allergy or sinus, but that seems more unlikely now.

Brief Answer:
Hard to tell without more information

Detailed Answer:
how you treat headaches depends, like most things in medicine, on what the cause is. here is a list of danger signs that should trigger a doctors visit:
-systemic signs such as fever/chills
-neurological signs such as confusion/drowsiness/weakness/ sensory changes
-age greater than 50
-maximum pain at onset
-change in pattern from previous headaches
I'm not sure whether you have any of the previous symptoms except for age

the three common types of headache you can treat yourself:
-tension headache: research mayo fascist pain patterns. yours mostly fits the referral pattern for trapezius/splenius/sternocleidomastoid. try stretching or seeing a therapeutic massage specialist if you have neck pain on the same side as the headache
-caffeine headache: caffeine lasts 22 hours so if you have a dull throbbing headache 22 hours after your last caffeine drink this could be you
- medication overuse headache. one of the side effects of any pain killer is headache. if you use any medication more than three days/week it can give you a headache. alternate Tylenol/ibuprofen/exedrin/alleve as they are all different chemicals

hope this helps
