Suggest Treatment For Persistent Mucus Discharge In Children With History Of Chest Infection
Question: Hi. For the past 5/6 weeks my 5year old son has being having a mucus discharge every evening. It started when he had a chest infection and was on antibiotics for that, although I don't know if the two are related. He has autism and not a good diet, very restricted in what he eats, although there have been no changes to his diet that would cause this. Otherwise he is well. Any ideas what is causing this and should I bring him to GP? Thanks.
Brief Answer:
Mucus Discharge
Detailed Answer:
Hello. I just read through your question.
it is very possible that the initial infection that was treated with antibiotics never fully resolved. Once the antibiotics were stopped at the end of the course, the bacteria began to reproduce again resulting in the persistent mucus discharge. Though not an emergency, I recommend consulting with your doctor to determine if another course of antibiotics are indicated.

Follow up
Detailed Answer:
In that case there is no need to worry. The mucus is swallowed from the nasal passages. If he is otherwise ok, there is no need for concern.
