Suggest Treatment For Persistent Muscle Spasms

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Nov 2016
Question: From this morning, I am experiencing muscle spasms very frequently in my left thigh and sometimes at left elbow.

A month back, I was experiencing muscle spasms at left knee and around shoulder 3 or 4 times a day. I also felt tingling sensation in arms and legs. My right eyebrow also closed involuntarily quite a few time.
I consulted a internal medicine specialist in Apollo hospitals, Secunderabad. He told me that there is no neurological deficit clinically and that this condition was called myokemia. He asked me to take Rivotril 0.5 mg at night and Nucarnit 500 mg twice a day for 15 days. He advised me to take B12 test which was around 380 level. My random blood sugar and complete blood count were also normal a month back.

On taking the medication, the tingling sensation stopped and the spasms reduced to just once per day. It has been more than a week since I stopped the tablets now and the spasms have started again. They are very frequent now compared to earlier. Should I continue these tablets? Should I go to a neurologist? Please advice. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
You need further medicines

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.

These spams are mostly due to deficiency of Vitamin D, Levocarnitine and can be due to thyroid or diabetes.
However, anxiety is a very common reason precipitating these spams.

If you have been tested for Vitamin D, Thyroid and diabetes, then just take the following recommended medicines , else get tested.

My recommendations in such case would be to continue Rivotril and take Levocarnitine and Vitamin E supplement. It is available in the market with the name Evion LC.

Along with this, start meditation and yoga.
