Suggest Treatment For Persistent Neck And Shoulder Pain
3 weeks ago I was pushed backwards from a sitting position (IE about one and a half foot) onto my thick rug (the rug is over a wooden floor). My head took a bit of a thump but there was no real pain, no loss of consciousness etc. I thought nothing of it at the time and I didn't anticipate that a sitting "fall" of approximately one and half feet onto a rug could cause any pain/problems.
However, about three days afterwards I started to feel some mild discomfort in my neck and also occasional pain at one place at the top of the back of my head. (MARKED BY TISSUE IN PHOTO). A point around where the top part of the impact with the floor rug was.
The neck pain is focused around the point where the top of neck and where base of skull meet - it is usually just a mild pain. The neck pain and shoulder pain comes and goes - about 30% of time there is no pain, and the other time it is mild to moderate. Then the pain on my head (this is also mild to moderate pain maybe about "2-4" out of 10" a little sore/pressure like pain).
The he level of pain - varying from none to mild to moderate has been about constant for the last three weeks. Not getting better not getting worse. I otherwise feel totally fine in myself. Pupils fine. Balance fine. No dizziness, eating well. Although neck and shoulders sometimes feel a little ache, mobility is good and it doesn't hurt to move neck in any direction. I'm doing gentle neck and shoulder exercises ever day.
I saw my local GP and he said I probably had mild whiplash and has asked me to take Meloxicam until Thursday, and if hadn't cleared up by then he'd send me for an X-ray, "just to be sure" - because of pain at spot on back oh head. He said it could be a very little bleed. But he said was very unlikely from such a "fall" in his experience.
As I really dislike going to hospitals I would like a second opinion on this. Why do I have the occasional soreness at that point at top of back of my head? It mostly doesn't hurt at all but does hurt (mild pain) for about an hour to two every day - a kind of soreness like there's a little cut or bruise there (there's no outside bruise or cut present). And is X-ray really necessary if hasn't cleared up in a couple of days? What's the most likely explanation?
Xray is necessary.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have read your query.
Pain on top of your head will go, but it takes some more time, I think there may be some impact on bone and soft tissue, during injury but it won't be visible on xray at this time etc, so don't bother about that.
For pain in neck, I advise you to get xray of cervical spine in AP and Lateral view done and send me the report.
Yes, its necessary to have xray as there may be sprain or disc problem which may cause cervical spine straightened which is causing all that pain.
From xray I want to see present condition of your spine, discs etc.
Till then have tab. aceclofenac100mg+thiocolchicoside4mg twice a day, cap. pregabalin75mg+methylcobalamine750mcg at night.
Avoid driving especially at night.
Apply hot packs.
Avoid any type of exercise.
I hope it helps.
Thanks,

RE: NECK PAIN.
It really isnt that painful so I dont think ive done any seious damage. Mobility is good etc, just occasional slight discomfort, so don't think I require an X-Ray. What is your professional opinion?
Re: OCCASIONAL SORENESS ON TOP OF HEAD.
This comes and goes throughout the day. The pain is also only mild but it worries me more as it is the head. Do you think it is likely just slight ache XXXXXXX to bone/soft tissue? In which case nothing to worry about? As I said, it doesnt hurt all the time and the pain is mild. What is your professional opinion?
Its not serious.

Hi,
Thanks for the response.
Its not that much serious, and you shouldn't be so worried.
Its due to soft tissue injury.
If you don't want to go for xray, even then you have to take medication as advised by me.
You will be alright.
Take care.
