Brief Answer:
Arthritis or Plantar Fascitis, a possibility

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It would have been good if you can describe the heel pain, exact location, what aggravates the pain and what reduces it. How long is this pain suffering? Do you have ankle arthritis?

The most common reasons are general wear and tear with osteoporosis at this age followed by plantar fascitis with plantar spur (heel bone) that irritates the plantar fascia beneath causing pain.

Massage therapy, Hot water immersion , Over the counter NSAID like MOTRIN upto 400mg, soft padded soles are the primary things for relief of the heel pain. It is also good to get a foot assessment done by an expert who can find out if there are corns, callouses on the sole or heel causing this pain.

Hope this helps.

Do you think Gout( high uric acid levels) could be part of my problem? I also fell after catching my right toe/foot under dog gate. It hurt my right big toe/ foot on upper inside of foot above arch and top of foot. It seems to hurt there and my arch when I stand or walk too much. This was right after Christmas. Do you think it might be a year or stress fracture?
I was diagnosed with mild heel spurs and Plantar Facitious. Was give a Steroid shot in each heel but it seemed to be more painful and not really help. I have tried ice, heat, oral pain relievers, soft soled shoes, Ortho inserts, wraps and new special shoes. Nothing seems to really help much. Pain is worse in left heel after exercise or sitting for awhile and first thing in am. The pain is pretty disabling at times. What are your best suggestions? Thanks. Geen

Brief Answer:
Gout and Stress fracture are high possibilities

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You are right. Gout and Stress fracture are also possibilities. Stress fracture is also likely at this age.
You should get an Xray done to rule out the stress fracture.
GOut can be ruled out with Serum Uric acid levels.
Stress fracture requires management on the basis of extent of fracture.
Uric acid requires Colchicine and plain Over the counter medications for actue pain. Sometimes to relieve pain you should be prescribed Oxycodone type of narcotics.
So you should see a primary care doctor for ruling out all of the above.
