What Causes Bony Protrusion On The Underside Of Heel?

Posted on Thu, 12 May 2016
Question: I have a history of foot problems, Arthritis. I am a nurse an on my feet a lot. In the "80" I had a bone spur and started wearing orthopedic supports in my shoes. I am very flat footed and have been told my arches are now going down more. ( I have always walked more on my heels than anywhere on my foot.) About a month ago I got new orthopedics and I started being aware of a new problem. It felt like there was a wrinkle in my r. shoe in the area that separate my heel from the rest of my foot.. It hurt and started me limping all the time. I could never find the wrinkle or any ridge that was causing my problem. This week it really gotten worst. I thought maybe I had a spur again but now the whole r. heel is painful, mainly around the edge and up the heel. I am on crutches now instead of a cane. What doing on?

Brief Answer:
it seems to knee spur and need conservative treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hai,

Thanks for consulting us.
Based on your complaint you are suffering from heel spurs.
As your Heel spurs are caused by strains on foot muscles and ligaments. Poorly fitted shoes, especially those lacking appropriate arch support, flat feet and age are precipitating factor and aggravating the conditions too.
As being in profession You should reduce standing most of the day on one's feet. Especially on affected feet.

You need a x ray for the feet and consult your orthopedician

Supportive Treatment advise:
Stretching exercises,
Physical therapy- therapeutic ultrasound may be helpful.Taping or strapping to rest stressed muscles and tendons.

Consult your physician if your pain in persisting and unresponsive to conservative treatment.

Kindly let me know if there any clarification.

I have been wearing arch supports since I had the first spur years ago. I spend little time on my feet anymore. I was a very active nurse but I am retired. I am over weight and not young so that might have more to do with it. It a really started when I got a newer pair of arch supports. Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
need an opinion from orthopedician and physiotherapist

Detailed Answer:
Hai,
Thanks for the reply. And sorry for the delay.

I think before you try homeopathy / Ayurveda, it would be better if you can take an opinion from orthopedician and physiotherapist. I believe any internal medication in Ayurveda or any system of medicine will not cure your problem. Conservative treatment is to be applied.

Your age (related with degenerative process of bone and muscles) and your weight may induce and aggregate the conditions. Further you need to check whether or not a new shoe suits you in long term use.otherwise change it.

I suggest to visit an orthopedician and as well as physical therapist to manage the conditions.
In Ayurveda we do apply medicated bandage and oil application for the problem and rest is advised. You can also try these simultaneously.

Treatment advise: Physical therapy can include ice or cold packs, stretching exercises, ultrasound treatments, or massage.

Kindly do let me know if there any clarification.
Regards
Dr.S.Senthilnathan
