Suggest Treatment For Persistent Pain In Upper Right Abdomen

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Jun 2015
Question: I have been having constant pain in my upper right abdomen. The pain started off about a month ago as reoccurring pain once a week to every few days but has now become constant. The pain is dull to moderate with a feeling of burning and pressure (almost like a fullness). The pain seems to lesson when I'm eating; however, it returns (and hurts even more) after I finish eating. I have been burping more frequently but have no other symptoms of acid reflux and antacids (tums and prilosec) have not seemed to help.
Tonight, I am unable to sleep from the pain. When I lay down, the pain seems to radiate to my lower back. Please help!

Brief Answer:
Can be gastritis or gastric ulcer, gastroscopy and ultrasound advisable

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

Your symptoms can be a sign of gastric ulcer or gastritis, especially since the pain gets better while eating. In your case I would first do an ultrasound of the abdomen to rule out any condition regarding gallbladder or pancreas and then schedule a gastroscopy. Also a stool sample for heliccobacter pyloi is advisable, since this is a bacteria which can also sometimes cause the symptoms described.

Until then continue antacids available over the counter. Avoid spices, caffeine, alcohol or smoking (if any). Make sure to eat at regular intervals.

Hope this is helping you , if you have any clarificatons you can get back to me, if this was helpful please kindly rate my answer. Best regards
