Brief Answer:
Diabetic nephropathy

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Diabetic patients with uncontrolled sugars often develop what is known as diabetic nephropathy. Here s creatinine tends to rise slowly leading to swelling of both the legs. But in you there might a confounding factor of a weak mitral valve causing leg swelling as well.
Here are my suggestions

1. Please restrict fluid intake to less than 1 litre
2. Avoid meat. You can eat chicken or fish once a week
3. Avoid fruits, fruit juices and tender coconut water. Apple, pineapple and papaya are okay but not in juice form
4. Avoid using painkillers
5. Get creatinine levels checked once in two months
6. Diuretics like tab lasix can help reduce the swelling

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Regards
