Suggest Treatment For Persistent Wheezing Cough After A Triple Bypass Surgical Procedure

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Jul 2015
Question: Hello, In 2002 I had a triple bypass surgical procedure following a heart attack. Since then, I take Lisinopril among other meds for my condition. I have developed a nasty cough over the past few months which I concluded must be bronchitis. It turns out that I don't have bronchitis but this wheezing cough persists, accompanied by copious amounts of phlegm (usually in the middle go the night.) If I were to switch from using Lisinopril to Losarton do you think this cough problem would be solved?

I also take Coreg, Plavix and Lipitor, but I am told that Lisinopril is causing my cough. Additionally, I am a type 1 diabetic and have Rheumatoid Arthritus. I take insulin by injection and Enbrel and some pain meds for my RA

Brief Answer:
Following answer to your query.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

It's a well known fact that all ACEi medications including lisinopril has as side effects coughing.

If pulmonary problems are excluded than most probably your cough is a side effect of lisinopril and switching to losartan will disepear the cough within a couple of days.

Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!
