Brief Answer:
The pain could be because of pleural involvement due to pneumonia.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Cmu,

Thanks for posting your query on HCM.

The pain in your back could be because of pneumonia in the lower lobes. Very often, in pneumonia there is involvement of pleural membrane covering the lungs which is painful. This pain is aggravated with deep breathing, coughing and even movements. It should subside as you recover from pneumonia. Continue with antibiotics, pain killers and other symptomatic treatment. If course of antibiotics is over, a follow up chest xray or ct chest should be done to see if pneumonia has resolved completely or not. Also discuss with your PCP as to why you have had second bout of pneumonia in such a short period because if immunity is compromised one may get frequent attacks of pneumonia.

Take care.
