Suggest Treatment For Post Menopausal Bleeding And Cyst In Uterus

I am 53 years old and stopped menstruating in May 2014 .Just last month (May -15 ) the bleeding started again and lasted heavily for 8-9 days . I had an ultrasound which shows cysts in uterus and cysts in ovaries and endometrial thickening of 7.8 mm . My doctor has suggested D&C and paps smear .What are my risks . I ahve had paps smear before as well twice at the age of 40 and 45 with negative results
proper investigations be done
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Bleeding after one year of menopause is known as post menopausal bleeding. Endometrial thickness of more than 4 mm in a post menopausal female has a high risk of endometrial hyperplasia or carcinoma. To rule it out, d& c and histopathological examination of endometrium should be done.
Post menopausal bleeding can also be due to cervical cancer. To rule this out, pap smear should be done.
Cysts in the ovaries can be benign or malignant and further investigation like Doppler ultrasound and serum CA-125 should be done.
Cysts in the uterus can be due to blood collection in the uterus.
I would suggest you to follow your doctor's advice and get properly treated.
Hope you found the answer helpful. Please do get back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
