Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Well I think you're talking about Postural Hypotension and not Hypertension and if its already being diagnosed then i believe you've been visiting to your Cardiologist who had diagnosed it.
You should appreciate the following life style measures if you have proven postural hypotension:
Avoid sudden head-up postural change
Avoid situations such as warm weather and even a hot bath as it can cause vasodilatation
Avoid straining during urination or passing stools
Get plenty of fluids a day, light and smaller multiple meals
Avoid bending at waist
Use more salt in diet that retains more water.
I would certainly avoid medications and counsel the patients promptly above measures. However a-lot of physicians do off label prescribing of medications.
The initial drug is the FLUDROCORTISONE, which probably acts by reducing salt and water loss. A low dose of 50–200 μg is used at night. Though these doses side effects are minimal, the long term effects are big hence I avoid (and offcourse since its a prescription drug, you need to check with your doctor before getting it).
However , as Orthostatic Hypotension is generally observed among Elderly population(age>65yrs) you need to check with your Cardiologist as there are few other entities also where this kind of similar symptoms tend to occur.
Please understand that quick fixes do not work with postural hypotension and only gradual life changes help.
