Posted on Sat, 27 Sep 2014
Question: Hi I have been diagnosed with potts spine (TB) last year in August (2013). I started with AKT4 kit for 4 months and then latter moved to RCINEX 600+300, levofloxin 750, Gemcal. Infection was detected in D7-10. After 8 months of treatment got an MRI done but infection increased from what it was in August/ October and December. Changed the doctor and currently on Combutol, PZide 2000 mg, Levofloxin 750, Meganeron, Gemcal. Though my pain in back and legs have reduced but still infection has not gone completely and I am due for my next MRI this month. Need your opinion to confirm if my treatment is on right track or I need do something about it differently. (I was also on bed rest from Oct to Dec '13 and currently wear a belt for support) FNAC was done in Aug and it was AFB +ve.

Brief Answer:
You are getting the right treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
As per your MRI report your infection in spine is definitely increasing since there is a fluid noted around the vertebrae. Since you are taking the proper treatment regularly, the abscess should have reduced by now. Now that you are due for another MRI let us see if the current medicines are helping you. You are already getting the broad spectrum antibiotics specific for TB. In case the disease is still increasing then it is best to get a culture sensitivity test of the fluid from the spine and start with the antibiotics according to the report.
I hope this answers your query.
