Suggest Treatment For Problem In Releasing Semen

default
Posted on Fri, 31 Oct 2014
Question: Hello Doctor. I have a feeling like something in the base of the penis/urethra prevents some of the semen to get fully released. I can also describe it as not having enough physical strength to force all the semen out. I wouldn't say that the amount of the semen became visibly smaller though (only partially I guess). I've been getting this sensation for a few months now. Could you please help...

Brief Answer:
Retrograde ejaculation

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

The condition you are facing is known as retrograde ejaculation where semen does not get out of the urethra and some of it tends to remain in the genito urinary system. The most common cause for this in your age group is stricture of the urethra or some congenital malformtion of the urethra.

I suggest you to meet a urologist for a cystoscopy to rule this out.

I hope I was of help, if you have any further doubts please get back to me

Regards

Thank you very much for your reply.

I have three follow up questions:

1)Is it still retrograde ejaculation even if the (relatively) normal amount of semen gets released, but it is just that ''blockage'' sensation that keeps bothering me?
2)Is there any way to conduct a non-invasive diagnostic procedure? probably ultrasound instead of cystoscopy if possible
3)What is the treatment for stricture of the urethra, and how long does it take?

Hello

Thanks for getting back, I am sorry for the short delay in my reply. I just came back from the hospital

1. Patients with retrograde ejaculation typically have the sensation of bloackage or incomplete ejaculation
2. Ultrasound is of no use as it cannot be used on the urethra
3. Treatment of the stricture is dilatation or urethroplasty. The treatment depends on how bad the stricture is. Dilatation takes less than 10 min whereas urethroplasty is a major procedure

I hope I was of help
