Management options for psoriasis

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and i have noted your concern.

Psoriasis is chronic skin disease characterised by scaly, erythematous plaques at various body sites particularly scalp and exrensors like knee, elbow, shins, lower back etc. Nail and joints may also be affected in psoriasis.

While there are lot of treatment options available for psoriasis (both topical and oral) but none till date is curative i.e psoriasis may come back after seemingly complete cure and require retreatment.

Topical treatment options alone suffice for limited skin disease and consists of topical steroids with or without salicylic acid, coal tar, calcipotriol, dithranol, phototherapy etc

For widespread disease, systemic treatment if often used in addition to topical treatment and includes options like methotrexate, cyclosporin, phototherapy (PUVA and NBUVB), adalimumab, infliximab etc

choice of treatment is decided by the severity and extent of involvement.

Regards
