Brief Answer:
Ativan will not help a psychotic episode.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I am sorry your daughter is having so much difficulty.

While Ativan can provide some calmness to anxiety, if your daughter is having a psychotic episode, an anti anxiety medicine will not help her adequately. She needs an antipsychotic medication. Symptoms of hallucinations (seeing things or hearing voices that are not the) or delusions (a thought that is not matching reality) are typical of psychoses. Paranoia can go along with that, but psychoses is delusions or hallucinations.

I suggest you talk with her doctor to discuss treatment of the psychotic symptoms.

I am also wondering about the Prednisolone. This is a corticosteroid and can cause psychotic symptoms in sensitive individuals. Is this a new medication for her? Because if it is, I would be suspicious of it causing the current problem.

Brief Answer:
Seroquel should help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ms. North,

The Seroquel is an antipsychotic. The Risperidone is too, but it was apparently not working adequately for her. The psychiatrist's review of her medications sounds like a good plan.

Regarding whether there may be future episode of psychoses, it can take some adjusting meds to get the right medication and dose, but once that is found and she is on it for a while, psychotic episodes will be much less likely.

It sounds like you are doing all the right things.
