Question: I had pulmonary emboli two months ago. I am currently taking coreg and lisinopril. I took Pradaxa for 6 weeks, but have discontinued a few days ago. Do you have any recommendations for me?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

the treatment for pulmonary embolism (besides the acute phase) depends on its cause. For example a patient who had pulmonary embolism after having been immobilized (surgery, injury, etc) may receive treatment for a short time period (3 months should be enough). Patients with unprovoked pulmonary embolism (that is without any risk factor like surgery, injury, pregnancy, antiphospholipid syndrome, hereditary thrombophilia, cancer, etc) may receive anticoagulation even forever. So, was your pulmonary embolism provoked or unprovoked (what did your doctors say) and did they advise you to stop anticoagulation or you decided that yourself?

If you had a provoked embolism and your doctors advised you to stop then I don't have any other recommendation for you. If you either had unprovoked embolism or you stopped anticoagulation against your doctors' advice then I would suggest you to reconsider treatment withdrawal.

I hope it helps! You can contact me again, if you'd like to discuss it further.
Kind Regards!
