Suggest Treatment For Pulsating Pain In Ear Canal Caused By TMD
Question: About once a year I have had intense pulsing pain in the depression just superior to the hole for my ear canal. It was always strong enough to take my breath away, and would last just a few seconds. For the first time in my life it is happening more than once. About once an hour yesterday I had pain just as I described about just less severe. It has now been about 20 hours. I teach A&P and cannot even imagine what is causing this. Can you help?

As further steps in diagnosis there is need for TMJ x-rays in different positions.
NSAID drugs such Ibuprofen eg. could be used to relieve the pain.
