The biopsy for diagnosing temporal arteritis (TA) is done by a surgeon. Careful that they do not do both sides at once. They should only do one side but they should take a long enough piece of the artery, to really make sure the pathology lab has a solid piece of material to work with. If you are under the age of 50 years of age- I would rethink the diagnosis since TA is considered rare to rarely in that age range. The average age for TA is the decade of the 70's.
