Brief Answer:
Continue Taxim 250
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for choosing this platform
Newborns are susceptible to bacterial infection.Raised CRP which indicates bacterial infection should be treated with antibiotics.I would also like to get a blood culture done to find out the causative organism.
Taxim contains Cefotaxim and has good covergae for common bacteria causing infection in neonate.
I would suggest you to follow the advice of your doctor and also look for the improvement or detrioration in general condition of the baby.
In case of any worsening in the condition a repeat test may need to be done and antibiotic may also need to be upgraded.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more query.
Thanks and regards

Hi
Blood culture test report is -ve. CRP count reduced to 74 yesterday. What is the safe count of CRP, I can take discharge? Doc is still continuing Taxim and yesterday gave another injection Neolistim 1miu. Should this help her to recuperate soon?

Brief Answer:
CRP level is still high
Detailed Answer:
Hello
It's good to know that blood culture report is negative and CRP level has decreased. But CRP level of 74 is still high.Ideally the CRP level should be less than 10.
Blood culture positivity even in infection is about 60% only.So negative blood culture does not rules out the infection.
As CRP has been decreased with use of taxi, I would like to continue it at least for 10 days or till the CRP level gets normal, whichever is later.
I could not able to understand the reason behind starting the neolistim.Neolistim is an antibiotic containing colistin with a very good coverage for gram negative bacteria. It is one of the last resort antibiotic for multi drug resistant bacterial infection.
There must be some reason (may be the clinical condition, non respoding fever)for which your doctor has started colistin.
I would suggest you to continue the treatment and discuss with your doctor regarding the justification behind use of colistin.
Please feel free if you have any more query.
