Suggest Treatment For Random Skin Rashes

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Jun 2016
Question: I occasionally get random rashes on my skin that has never been linked to anything specific. It starts slowly on the inside of my arms, my stomach, my neck and onto my face. It does not itch and usually goes away in a few days. I am currently taking Tamoxifan 20mg, Venlofaxine 150mg, centrum silver multi-vitamin, 1500 mg calcium. I have had these over many years, but have noticed that they are occurring more frequently, Most recently, the only new thing i did was take Day Quil, and the rash was very bad and although has mostly subsided, I noted increased sesitivity on my neck and upper back/chest area.

Brief Answer:
Allergic rashes likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The symptoms you have are very typical and seen in allergies to chemicals. The long history of the symptoms adds to this fact.

Allergy to such chemicals which occur in many substances with mild changes in chemical structure could be very annoying.

Taking Benadryl will surely comfort you for temporarily. The mainstay treatment is in avoiding the allergens.

I would advice you to visit a Allergy specialist who can perform tests like skin test or blood test to detect IgE (allergy antibody) and confirm the fact.

As I've said, avoiding the allergen is the best treatment but a difficult one.

Also newer treatment techniques are in play like Immuno therapy . Here desensitization or hyposensitization is a treatment in which the person is gradually vaccinated with progressively larger doses of the allergen in question. This can either reduce the severity or eliminate hypersensitivity altogether. It works by blocking excessive IgE production seen in atopys. In a sense, the person builds up immunity to increasing amounts of the allergen in question.

Such immuno-therapies are practised by allergy specialist only. Hence,I do recommend a visit to him.

Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.

Wishing you good health.
