Suggest Treatment For Rapid Heart Rate While Having COPD
Question: My wife has COPD and lots of pain with stress fractures of the spine . She gets along alright but then gets episodes of heart rate 161 we've gone to emergency several times and once they thought
heart attack but the enzyme count went down quickly at that episoce she had heart rate 180. What could cause these sudden bouts of high heart rate.?

Dear Sir,
Patients with COPD sometimes have atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter episodes.
If she was my patient, I would perform 24 hour ECG monitoring to find out if there is any arrhythmia. If in 24 hours there's no arrhythmia, then I would give the patient event monitoring. It is a small device, that the patient caries and presses to chest when feels fast heart rate or any type of arrhythmia.
Only after proper diagnosis of the cause of fast heart rate, we can think of treatment.
