Suggest Treatment For Rash In Pubic Region

default
Posted on Sat, 27 Sep 2014
Question: My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex 5 days ago. There was a lot of rubbing and he admits had recently shaved. He was sore the next day around the pubic bone area. We were also at the beach....surfing and laying directly in the sand. I suspect not the most sanitary of situations. Now he says there is a red rash in the pubic hair region. I don't have any rash or soreness and no known stds. Could this just be an irritation from the friction? How long should he wait before seeing a doctor....he's not eager to go to the doctor's office! Please help. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Could be friction - induced or a fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to healthcare magic.

I understand from your query that your friend has a rash about a week after intercourse.

From your history, I would consider the possibilities of intertrigo and a fungal infection.

Intertrigo occurs due to friction and rubbing, especially in the groin folds and pubic area. He could use a dusting powder with 1 % Clotrimazole for symptomatic relief.

It could also be a fungal infection which he might have acquired at the beach. Since you are not having any such symptoms, it is unlikely that he would have got it from you. He could use a cream containing 1 % Clotrimazole twice a day for 2 weeks to treat the rash.

Let him keep the area dry at all times.

Hope this helps you.

If you have any further queries, I will be glad to answer.

Take care.

Regards,
