Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic
I have gone through your query and I have understood it well.
You seem to have a condition known as Urticaria/ hives.
Urticaria usually presents as red, itchy, skin welts/swellings which can be distributed all over the body.
Itching is usually present in patients of urticaria.
Urticaria can be classified as either Acute (if the duration is less than 6 weeks) Or Chronic (if it has been present for more than 6 weeks).
Since your condition is a few months old therefore I would classify your urticaria as "Chronic Urticaria".
Though majority of acute urticaria cases resolve within 2 weeks, however, only half of chronic urticaria cases resolve spontaneously within 6 months.
50%-60% of cases of Chronic urticaria are autoimmune in etiology. Association of autoimmune thyroid disease with chronic urticaria is well known.
Testing for thyroid autoantibodies helps identify these cases.
You may take up a test for thyroid autoantibodies as well as a serum IgE blood test to identify different possible allergens present in your environment that may be responsible for urticaria.
Overall, approximately half of the patients of chronic urticaria have no underlying cause and are known as "idiopathic urticaria" i.e all testing is normal.
I suggest you to continue with once daily cetrizine. It is absolutely safe for long term.
